Wednesday

On Wednesday me mossy and Megan went to get an açai bowl after we all got home from work. We stayed there for a while and talked and then headed back to the accommodation.

Me and mossy then went down and played ping pong for an hour. Being two very competitive people I’m surprised there were no fights during the game. (I lost every game)

Later on in the night we ordered McDonalds and I went out to get it with megan the food wasn’t there (We had been robbed) I was annoyed because I was looking forward to my late night McFlurry ice cream.

Day 10

Was a slow day in work and not much to do at all today unfortunately but after work I walked the town and also had an acai bowl with Kian and Megan. I played ping pong for a while with Kian downstairs and then relaxed. Four of us went to the chicken shop around the corner for dinner which was lovely and made it back in time to watch the Aston Villa and Celtic game in the cinema room to finish the evening off

TUESDAY & WEDNESDAY day 9 and 10 :)

Tuesday was a quite interesting we went and viewed the spectacular Alcazaba and the views from the hillside around it. The Alcazaba is a ruin in the heart of Malaga where once was home to Muslims in Spain.

Muslims tried to conquer Spain in the early centuries but unfortunately did not succeed. This historical place plays a large part of history in Spain and it brings the history to presence as these buildings are well built and still standing after so many years.

Yesterday in the vet I completed a stock count of medications just to see what was left of stock this took a good bit of time but we got it complete.

Today we researched each medication that we have found on the internet and noted about each item, and helped wash and clean the little dogs.

Tomorrow we will start the morning off well with a nice breakfast with the work crew in the vet 🙂

Day 5 🐶

Day 5 at the Clinic

The day started with golden sunshine, but things took a sad turn when Bartolome told me that the Pinscher I assisted with yesterday passed away at home. It was a tough moment, and I found myself really missing my own dogs back home. I know this is the field I want to train in, but these situations still hit hard.

Today, blood work was done during a check-up on a cat who sadly has cancer, using the centrifugal and MNCHIP machines . The centrifugal spins blood samples to separate components, while the MNCHIP is used for blood typing—both essential tools in the clinic.

After a challenging day, Paula and Laura treated us to a boat ride. We saw dolphins and enjoyed a stunning sunset, a perfect way to unwind and end the week on a positive note. Feeling lucky to have this amazing experience!

Malaga Erasmus

Friday, January 24th;

Today we had our last day of work for week one, it was an enjoyable with the children and they were all very excited for the weekend. In work today we just played games and with the today and there was no real structure more just a full day of free playing. It was a beautiful day so we brought the children out to the patio where we played a game of Simon Says, the children laughed the whole time and had an amazing day.

Later into Friday we had an organised boat trip, the sun was out and it was Friday and everyone was excited and looking forward to the weekend ahead. The boat was beautiful there was a little on the boat where you could get refreshments and snacks as you wished. The views from the boat were amazing and everyone was able to talk and have a laugh which was very enjoyable. There was some beautiful dolphins right beside the boat and it was amazing to see.

Saturday, January 25th;

Although Saturday was our first off day we still had to rise early as we were going to visit the Salt Caves in Nerja. The caves were beautiful and it is something i am glad to have gotten the opportunity to do.

After the Caves we went to Nerja, here we got some food in a little bar and restaurant before heading down to the beach for a swim as it was a beautiful day.

The views in the Village were so beautiful, almost like something out of a movie.

We all got back on the bus and headed to a small white washed town called, Frigiliana. This town was stunning all the houses and buildings being white made the town feel so homely.

We all headed home before a group of us went out for the night as on Sunday we did not need to be up early for any reason. It was a long but very fun and enjoyable night and everyone had a lot of fun.

Sunday, January 26th;

Sunday was a chill day, we all had a lie in and then when we all had woken up we went to a little a American pancake shop, although it was world famous it wasn’t all that nice and most of us didn’t eat it at all. We then decided to walk around for a little while and have a look at the shops and the village a little bit more. As some of us are missing home we “made” a homemade spice bag, (we bought the chicken strips already cooked and the chips) then we added seasoning. It was very nice but it was almost cold by the time we ate it because we had bought chips and tried to cook them at first but they weren’t cooking.

Monday, January 27th;

Today we were back to work experience today the children were very excited to see me and it made me so happy as I have felt like I have started to make an impact with them. Today we with the children I made a house with them as they are learning about their house at the minute.

We decorated the house by using markers, stickers, paint and some glitter. The children could decorate as they pleased and they were smiling and enjoyed every minute of it.

Tuesday, January 28th;

During work today the children and I did some finger painting. We would then turn there designs into necklaces for them to be able to wear.

After work we had a walking history tour planned and a hike. The history tour was very long but it was very interesting.

Once the tour was completed we all hiked up the back of the castle and it was beautiful, the views were outstanding!

Wednesday, January 29th;

Today in work I traced around the children’s hands as they are getting some renovations in the outside playground area and they are putting a section for the children to be able to leave their water similar to what they have in the classroom, but rather than using name tags I thought it would be a good idea to trace their hands and write their names on it so their areas could be identified easily.

After work today I went and got a few presents for my family back at home and then just chilled out and watched the football matches in the cinema room with a few others.

Day 4 Work placement

Started the day with a lovely walk to work—spotted a lemon tree and a cool shore along the way! The first patient of the day was a Frenchie named “Puppies” (government name: Dexter, haha). Later, the Pinscher from the other day came back for his routine extraction. I assisted with the procedure, prepping the vet’s table and getting a front-row seat to the action. It was so exciting to see everything up close!

Afterward, a cat came in for a routine neuter. It was a smooth day all around, and I’m loving all the hands-on experience! The heat lamp in one of the cages was to keep a dog warm post-surgery—always so important after anaesthesia.  Bart asked mento organiser the medication drawers as they had gotten messed up , i live organising that loved that too 😅Such a good day!

Day 3

Today was full of interesting cases at the clinic . We had a cat who needed an ultrasound after dropping crystals in his urine (a common issue causing blockages). We also saw a dog with multiple dew claws—always cool to see, though it’s more common than you’d think.

I’ve been bonding with Bartolome’s dog, Chikka. I’m really missing my own four pups back home, but it’s so nice seeing the animals coming innl and receiving top quality care ,it really reinforces my drive to become a veterinarian 🐶

To top it off, Laura and Paula organized a gorgeous walk around the city. It’s absolutely beautiful here—such a great way to unwind after a busy day!

Monday + Tuesday 20th/21st Jan

On Monday once we were brought to the primary school I was expecting/hoping to be brought around the school and introduced to what teachers I would be working with but once our tour guide took us to the gate, a woman met us there and just told us what time to be in at for Tuesday.

We had the rest of the day off then so I just followed around the rest of my group to see where their placements were and just to explore a bit more.

After we seen everyone’s placements we went back home and waited for a few others to finish seeing their placements. That evening we went out for food and had an early night for work the next day.

Today, I assisted the children in finger painting peace signs. We then designed paper hearts with coloured paper mache. After the peace signs were dry, I removed the inside unnecessary paper and poked thread through to create a necklace. The children then had a music teacher come in.
